Ah, spring. One of our favorite seasons! It’s a time when we feel refreshed, and when the landscape looks reborn. It’s seeing the new foliage bud on trees, or watching tulips or daisies push up through the soil. There’s nothing quite like the early spring bloomers.

In the spirit of spring, we’re sharing some of our most-loved early blooming plants. Trees, shrubs, and perennials all go through the most amazing transition this season, and we’re overjoyed to recommend these stunning specimens.

Flowering Plant Tips

A common question we get about flowering plants is if it’s possible to increase the number of blooms. While there’s no way to magically force a plant to produce more flowers than it naturally would, below are some tips to encourage healthy growth and flowering through proper care and maintenance. Please note that every tree, shrub, and perennial has different requirements and not all of these tips will apply. Check each plant’s individual care on our website, or contact us with questions!

  • Pruning - Pruning your plants properly can promote healthy growth, which is essential for flowering. Remove dead or diseased branches and thin out crowded areas to stimulate new growth and encourage flowering.
  • Watering - Proper watering is crucial for flower production. During droughts, or when the plant is establishing roots, make sure to provide enough water. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot and disease. For more watering tips, check out our watering guide.
  • Sunlight - Most flowering plants require plenty of sunlight to bloom profusely. Make sure your tree is planted in a location where it receives full or partial sunlight for the majority of the day.
  • Mulching - Applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds, all of which contribute to overall plant health and flowering. For more tips on mulching, check out our mulching guide.
