The spring sight of a Forsythia bush thickly covered with starry, sulfur-yellow, or deep golden blooms brings a sense of joy. There are two principal kinds: a mound or a hedge and one that forms a ground cover. Hedge forsythia can be grown as a flowering hedge or trained to frame a window or doorway. A sunny position is vital to prevent suckering, lack of flowers, and loose, weak structure. These plants are healthiest in well-drained soils. To quote Chicago Botanic, 'Never shear forsythias into “green meatballs", as their natural shapes are graceful enough.'
